What is Psychological Wholeness?
Whole Mind Therapy and Counseling is an online therapy practice in Massachusetts committed to helping clients who experience anxiety, substance abuse issues, and specialized therapy for men's issues. A fundamental part of therapy at Whole Mind focuses on the connection between the mind, body, emotions, and inner world.
Western medicine has separated the mind and body, which creates and reinforces the stigma of psychological conditions and can also lead to misconceptions by many about one's own mental health. The issue that arises with this approach is that people believe that they are broken, weak, or that there is something wrong with them if they experience mental distress such as sadness, anger, anxiety, fear, or depression. People will then seek other ways to "fix" themselves, by coping with the use of alcohol and substances, perfectionism, workaholism, and repression of emotions, etc., to solve a "problem" that can be understood and addressed by looking inward.
So why does this matter?
In our fast paced and competitive culture, many are seeking a quick fix to rid themselves of their internal struggles. But what if those struggles- stress, anxiety, sadness, grief, and fear could be understood, accepted, and actually embraced, as they are all emotions and psychological responses to being human? What if accepting these parts of yourself could actually help to alleviate the mental struggle that you experience when these feelings arise, creating less tension within, and an improved understanding of who you are, and your relationship to others in the world?
Psychological Wholeness is a journey towards a new way of living that includes new insights, awareness, self-acceptance, self-compassion, a new understanding of the connection between your mind and body, and a more accepting relationship with yourself and your inner world. Using this understanding of wholeness, one is not seeking a perfect harmony between these parts, but instead an acceptance of the parts of oneself that make them who they are: mind, body, emotions and inner world. The task is not to avoid unpleasant experiences and emotions, but instead accepting and adapting to them, and using our own healing process to work through these experiences, rather than seeking external ways to solve an internal malady.
Why the name Whole Mind?
Whole Mind Therapy and Counseling was developed to help clients embark on a path to Psychological Wholeness. It all starts with a willingness to look at the parts of yourself you may have kept hidden or are unaware of, to work through the tough things that keep you stuck, and the acceptance of all the parts of yourself-the amazing and best parts of you, or sometimes the limiting, and frustrating parts.
Once these things are identified, understood, and one begins to accept them, Whole Mind seeks to help people "lean" into (take action) the things that are blocking them from living their life with the meaning and purpose they desire.
