Hi, I’m Kevin.

I’m an online therapist in Boston, MA and across the state of Massachusetts. I support people during challenging times and transitions in their life, and assist people with working through what might be blocking them from living a balanced and fulfilling life. You feel like you're being pulled in a million different directions, your thoughts are spiraling, work is crazy busy, sometimes you don't have time for your significant other, your friends feel like they're drifting away, your family expects so much of you, and you're not sure about the next step in your career. It can feel like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders. You're trying to advance in your career, while also giving your significant other, and other relationships the time that they need. All of this while trying to plan for your future, and it can feel like if you make the wrong decision, it could be a huge setback. 

Life stage transitions can be exciting, but also stressful and terrifying. 

I provide online therapy in Boston, MA and throughout the state of Massachusetts. I work closely with college students, professionals, new parents, or the person who feels like they're just too busy to take time to invest in themselves. 

Oftentimes people see me at a time in their life when they're going through a transition and things are supposed to be happy and wonderful, but they find that they feel anxious, worried and stressed out! Maybe they were promoted and they get the job, and realize they still feel dissatisfied. Or maybe they just moved in with their significant other, and things were great before, but now they’re arguing all the time. Or maybe they have all the things they could ever want: the job of their dreams, a great partner, their first kid, but something keeps gnawing at them that they're not doing enough, or that they are not far enough along in their life.

This “destination addiction” is common for many, but it's a slippery slope because it often leaves us feeling anxious and unfulfilled, so we reach for the next thing to make us feel better, only to realize it didn't work. It's a vicious cycle, and it can be broken!

Online therapy, also known as telehealth and teletherapy, connects people with a therapist with increased ease of scheduling and more time saved for you by not having to travel to and from appointments. I combine a number of treatment approaches that are evidenced based, and things I've found to be helpful in my own life.

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Psychodynamic Therapy (tried and true, talk therapy), and mindfulness techniques. I tailor my approach based upon your needs. I have found that, largely, most people respond best to an integrative approach of processing and skill development, so you'll be able to talk out the things on your mind, and receive guideance to take action to make changes in your life. .

Flexibility: In March of 2020, the whole world was flipped upside down, and online therapy and counseling became the main way that people accessed therapy at that time. Luckily, online therapy has gained momentum, and many people are now accessing online therapy who may have not considered therapy before. Online therapy allows a busy person, the flexibility to schedule appointments before work, or on their lunch break, leaving time after work for other commitments. You don't have to worry about driving or taking public transportation to and from appointments. Or finding a place to park!

Accessibility: More and more therapists have made the switch to a virtual practice. This allows you, the person seeking therapy, greater choice over the providers you’re able to see, and who have the skills and experience to meet your needs. As a therapist that specializes in treating anxiety, depression, substance abuse, men's issues and chronic pain conditions, I'm able to meet with people local to Boston and across the state of Massachusetts.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):

CBT is an evidenced based treatment for anxiety, depression and other mental health conditions. CBT assists people with bringing awareness to their thoughts, emotions, and how they are responding (or not responding) to situations in their life. A major component of CBT is to work on ways to restructure negative thought patterns, also known as negative self-talk, as these negative thoughts produce unpleasant emotions triggering depression, anxiety, irritability, etc. We’ll also work on ways to recondition your automatic responses (behaviors) that might be causing distress or conflict in your life and/or your relationships. Online CBT is helpful for those seeing me for anxiety therapy, depression therapy and drug and alcohol counseling.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT):

ACT is a behavior therapy, similar to CBT. The main principals and concepts of ACT focus on goal setting and making changes that align with your personal values. ACT teaches people how to accept the ups and downs, and the good and bad of life, and teaches people how to accept and tolerate difficult emotions. This is a great approach for people who want to understand and change their internal thought process (perspective), take action, and work through barriers and conditioned responses. ACT is an evidenced based treatment, and is proven to be an effective treatment for generalized anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, substance abuse issues, stress, and burn-out.

Psychodynamic Therapy:

Talk therapy! If you want to go “deeper,” psychodynamic therapy is form of therapy that will allow you to access deeper emotional states, and understand emotions that underlie surface level emotions. We will understand how developmental experiences in childhood, upbringing, and parent and family system relationships have influenced your experience in the present time. A main focus is to bring awareness to deeper emotional states, and allow for greater insight into how you feel and think. This processing and awareness is healing for many people, and allows people to make different decisions in their life, and take action in new and productive ways.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR):

MBSR is a evidenced based program, and has proven to be helpful to reduce stress, reduce physical pain and improve overall well-being. I combine concepts from MBSR with other treatment interventions, and find that MBSR is especially helpful in the treatment of chronic pain and mind-body conditions.

12-Step concepts:

Utilizing concepts from the 12-Steps of Alcoholic Anonymous is a part of treatment for those in drug and alcohol counseling. I combined 12-step concepts with many of the above treatment modalities to bring balance, accountability, and help bring new prescriptive to peoples experiences.

Some common questions and concerns people might have about online therapy:

What is it like to attend an online therapy appointment?

Good question. You don’t have to be tech savvy to attend online therapy appointments. I use HIPAA compliant, secure practice management software that will send you a link 48 hours prior to your appointment. All you have to do is click the link from your smartphone, tablet or computer, and you will be brought into your video appointment with me. You just have to be in the state of Massachusetts at the time of your appointment, and can join from your home, a private space at work, or even in your parked car.

I’m worried online therapy won’t be able to help me.

Online therapy is a little is different than meeting in-person, but it’s the next best thing! I've been providing online therapy for 2 years. As I mentioned, research indicates that online therapy is as effective as in-person counseling, for most mental health conditions. There are some people for whom meeting in-person might be better for them. I have found for the busy student, professional and parent, online therapy takes the pressure off of having to fit one more thing in to their busy life. I have worked with many people over the past 2 years who have made great progress meeting with me through an online therapy format.

Is online therapy right for everyone?

While there are many benefits, online therapy may not be right for everyone. Some people may prefer in-person appointments. While others may be better matched for in-person appointments due to their reason for seeking therapy. Feel free to reach out to see if online therapy can helpful to you. What’s the cost for online therapy?

I am in-network with Aetna, Harvard Pilgrim, Allways Health Partners and United Healthcare insurances. If you choose not to use your insurance benefits, I have private-pay rates as well, and I can assist you with utilizing out-of-network benefits if you have a PPO plan for an insurance not listed above.
